COUNTDOWN: Top Ten Switch Games I Played in 2023 #6 Pikmin 1: Remastered

Beginning with Mario Kart 8 in the previous entry on this list and as you’ll see for the rest of it, 2023 was a fantastic mixture of both old and new for Nintendo. In anticipation of Pikmin 4, the company decided to release HD versions of the first two installments released for the Gamecube way back when. And with Pikmin 3 already available as a Deluxe version on the console, this makes the Nintendo Switch home to every mainline game in the series.

And this makes the Nintendo Switch quite an awesome Nintendo video game playing machine.

It’s true that this remaster is one in name only, without much being upgraded outside of the increase in resolution and widescreen support. But when you’ve got a game already as great as Pikmin (mild shoutout to Pikmin 2), sometimes a little can go a long way. This was the first major new IP from the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto in some time when it came out and everything about it felt fresh, fun and exciting. The presentation was stellar with gorgeous environments and a 10/10 soundtrack with beyond inventive gameplay mechanics that define the word “addictive.”

Going back and playing it again after all these years was truly nostalgic and every bit as fun as the first time around.

Pikmin 1 (and 2) are available as a physical copy or Direct Download from the Nintendo eShop for $49.99
