COUNTDOWN: Ten Games to Play on Switch This Halloween #3 Outlast II

Outlast II is perfect: It is also definitely not for everyone. But for what the developers are setting out to accomplish, the game is just flawless in my opinion. From the airtight controls to the jaw dropping graphics (really pushing Nintendo’s aging little hybrid console and flexing it’s capabilities), here we have a truly terrifying experience with tense mechanics, a beyond unsettling narrative and…

..well, I could just go on and on about this one!

As far as I’m aware this is a sequel in name only to the original Outlast. One that I began and was creeped out by but for whatever reason not captivated enough to see through. In this one though, after an opening helicopter crash, you and your surviving (not to mention pregnant) partner are trapped in the middle of nowhere between warring cults. It’s a desperate attempt to escape the area, yet here’s the thing: You are completely weaponless, armed with only a camcorder and reliant on batteries to light your way through many jump scares, while doing your best to stay out of sight the entire time. The concept is some true survival horror shit (yes, even scarier than F-Zero GX) and that ending…just one for the ages, wow.

Nice job you video game design people that designed this video game. What a fantastic piece of interactive horror!
