HALLOWEEN 2023: “Your Cadaverous Pallor Betrays an Aura of Foreboding…”
It’s a cold, overcast morning here in the bay area. The sidewalks are covered with fallen, dried up leaves and cawing sounds from crows the size of small dogs fill the air. The perfect atmosphere for, yep you guessed it: Hitting the art supply and hardware stores for those last minute Halloween craft decoration projects and throwing some pumpkin bread into the oven.
To accompany and perfect this excellent atmosphere, I like to play The Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House, an old Disney record from the early 60’s (then extended in the late 70’s). Filled with creepy sounds and voices, it’s a record dripping with that extra Disney ingredient which always takes this kind of stuff one special step further. It’s like someone boiled the pure essence of the Haunted Mansion ride down into audio form.
If you were ready to put money down on this thing blasting from a small portable speaker on our patio while we pass out candy on the big day, you sure do win that bet.
