COUNTDOWN: Ten Games to Play on Switch This Halloween #10 House of the Dead Remake

With the Fall season officially here as of last weekend, I’m calling it: Anyone reading this site is gonna be up to their sweet little candy corns in Halloween related posts. And for the next however long it takes to finish, I’ll be counting down my top ten spooky games to play on Nintendo’s hybrid console. First up is a title anyone who grew up at a time when they could still go to a mall or pizza parlor and be welcomed by that warm glow of multiple arcade cabinet screens will likely be familiar with, only now updated with a fresh coat of high definition pixel paint.

The House of the Dead Remake.

The Nintendo Switch has a lot to offer. Of course you’ve got the great first party stuff along with some surprisingly strong support from plenty of indie developers. But it’s also home to a lot of retro games, and for those of us who like our retro games, boy howdy what an absolute goldmine. There’s no shortage of various console and arcade collections, sequels, remasters, etc. I’ve got a folder dedicated to just arcade games as well as one just for horror and this on rails remake of Sega’s arcade classic fits snugly into both categories. The gameplay remains true to it’s arcade roots but the visuals have been given a slick makeover and the entire presentation is just good old fashioned pick up and play mindless fun.

And I mean, If running through horrifying gothic environments blasting down hordes of demonic monsters and various incarnations of the undead doesn’t scream October Town then I don’t know what does.
